Richland County Board of Elections certifies ballots from May 3 primary election

No automatic recounts will be required in any of the local races from the May 3 primary election.

The Richland County Board of Elections met Wednesday to certify the results.

"Our election night unofficial total was 19,546," BOE Director Matt Finfgeld said in an email.

That amounted to a turnout of 24.6%, which was in the range Finfgeld had predicted.

The board of elections counted 219 provisional, two late-but-eligible absentee ballots, one uninformed and citizens absentee ballot and one curbside ballot.

Some of the highlights of the local election included Mansfield voters turning down a parks levy and county voters choosing Cliff Mears over David Morgenstern to be the Republican candidate for Richland County commissioner.

While Gov. Mike DeWine comfortably won his Republican primary race statewide, county residents favored Joe Blystone.
