Richmond Habitat taps Hopewell public-housing official as new CEO

A Hopewell public-housing official has been named the new head of the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity.

The group announced Monday it has hired Madelyn Peay as its new chief executive officer. Peay was chief operating officer of the Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 12 years and also ran Peay United, a company focused on increasing access to affordable housing and financial freedom. She has more than two decades in the affordable-housing industry.

In a statement, Richmond Habitat board chairperson Tiya Williams said the group's future "looks bright."

Peay succeeds Mary Kay Huss, who is retiring after four years with Richmond Habitat.

Peay also servces on the board of the Virginia Housing Alliance and Richmond's Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

Richmond Habitat serves the city of Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield and Henrico. Since 1986, it has built 378 houses and completed more than 100 critical home repairs in its service area. To learn more about the group, visit www.richmondhabitat.org.
