Richmond Heights hosting 'Chat with a Chaplain' hiking event
Jul. 2—The Richmond Heights Police Department will be hosting its Chat with a Chaplain hiking event, where guests can acquire spiritual guidance from the department's chaplains while exploring trails.
The hike will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. July 5 at the Greenwood Farm Community Park, 264 Richmond Road.
"We are hosting a unique community policing event that incorporates our police chaplains," Police Chief Thomas Wetzel said. "They play a valuable supportive role within our agency and community."
Leon Thompson has been a practicing pastor for over 30 years and will be among the individuals providing spiritual guidance to the community throughout the hike with the police department providing s'mores after the hike concludes.
"We will be roasting some s'mores after. It will be a fun community event. There are some picturesque hiking trails the group will use." Wetzel said. "The event provides a special opportunity to meet some of our police chaplains and share some time and fellowship with them and other members of the community."
Wetzel said he believes the event will help bring the community together and further a sense of trust between the department and the community.
"Our police chaplains are some wonderful people with servant's hearts and who can act as ambassadors for our police department." he said. "We encourage people to stop out and enjoy some summer time with us."
The event will be free and open to the public.
