Richmond Heights Recreation Department to host April casino bus trip

Feb. 25—Richmond Heights Recreation Department recently announced that as part of their expanding senior programing they will have the "long-awaited" Seneca Allegany Casino Bus Trip.

Recreation Director Cameron Campbell said demand for a casino bus trip was high, as the city used to do several a year. But he said due to the increase in prices to rent a bus, he has to limit the number of trips to two a year.

"This year we brought back the casino bus trips which we used to do back in the day, about eight or nine years ago," Campbell said. "It's mostly structured for elderly or retired people that are off, to give them something to do, for people that don't have anything to do in the week.

"Once we brought back the Amish country bus trip last year for the first time, we had a ton of people on that bus trip that said we need to do more of them."

The expanded programing is part of Campbell's plan to bring back some programs that seniors wanted and some new ones as well.

"This is actually just the start of it," he said. "We just secured a licensed yoga instructor and once she gets comfortable doing regular yoga classes, we want her to alter her classes to maybe include chair yoga so it's more suitable for elderly people.

"We are really just trying to figure out what exactly the senior population would want," he added. "I have a couple Red Board members who are active seniors, so I have them going around their community, kind of figuring out what they want, and we try and make that happen."

The $40 registration fee will include bus fare plus $25 in slot dollars and $5 in food vouchers. The bus, which leaves at 7 a.m. April 10 and returns the same day at 7 p.m. will stop for breakfast on the way, but seniors will have to make their own arrangements at that time.

Registrations can be made by calling the Recreation Department at 216-383-6313.
