Richmond man arrested for assault, unlawful imprisonment

Jun. 6—A Richmond man was arrested on multiple charges including assault, unlawful imprisonment, and wanton endangerment.

On June 2, officers with the Richmond Police Department (RPD) responded to reports of a domestic violence situation. En route to the scene, dispatch advised that a female victim called 911 and allegedly stated Justin Robert Schmidt had fled in a black Honda Civic.

According to police documents, the victim told officers Schmidt had strangled and hit her. He allegedly kept her and a juvenile cornered in a bathroom.

Another officer located Schmidt, who allegedly fled police in his car before turning into a gas station. Text in arrest citation said Schmidt exited the vehicle and was immediately put in cuffs. Officers on the scene described a strong odor of alcohol coming from the suspect along with other signs of intoxication, according to arrest citations.

Schmidt allegedly admitted to drinking throughout the prior six hours. After testing, he was arrested and lodged at the Madison County Detention Center.

According to police documents, implied consent was read and Schmidt admitted he was drunk and should not have been driving.

Schmidt was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, fourth-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree criminal mischief.
