RICHMOND, Mo. — Police in Richmond, Missouri, want the public to keep their eyes open.

Investigators are searching for a suspect they say shot another man during a Monday night argument. Richmond’s police chief said that man has been on the run ever since.

Richmond officers took their time on Tuesday afternoon, carefully sweeping the neighborhood near Buchanan and Camden streets, and the area around some HUD apartments there.

Richmond Police Chief Scott Bagley said a Monday argument in the street got heated when 34-year-old Darren Lee Tackett allegedly shot 30-year-old Randy Covey II in the stomach.

Neighbors told police Tackett caught a Monday night ride to Kansas City, and they haven’t seen him since.

Bagley said Tackett is 6 feet tall with blue eyes and a beard. Bagley believes Tackett may still be in the Kansas City area.

Officers advise the public that Tackett is considered armed and dangerous.

“He’s been in an altercation already, so we know he has the potential for violence. He’s already shot one person, so I would expect he would do it again,” Bagley said.

Covey’s step-mother, Jessica Gardner, told FOX4 that Covey had one surgery on Monday night and another on Tuesday. He’s expected to recover.

Bagley said his officers are familiar with both men from previous cases, and officers are called to that area of Buchanan Street often.

“I just hope they catch him because he’s not a good person around here if he’s shooting people,” Allie Comstock, a neighbor, said.

Officers from at least two other KC-area law enforcement agencies are helping with this search.  If you have useful information, please contact police in Richmond, Missouri, at 816-776-2000 with any tips.
