Richmond truck driver involved in Ohio crash

ANSONIA, Ohio — A Richmond truck driver was involved in a crash early Thursday at U.S. 127 and Ohio 47.

James Taggart, 45, was driving his 2010 Mack semi south on U.S. 127 about 12:10 a.m. Thursday when a westbound 2010 Kia Forte driven by Jessica Hernandez, 19, of Union City, Ohio, traveled into his path. Hernandez failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, according to the Darke County Sheriff's Office.

Hernandez and a front seat passenger, Ana Vilma, 23, of Union City were extricated from their vehicle by Ansonia Fire, and both were transported by Careflight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Taggart was treated at the scene.

Ansonia Rescue, Ansonia Fire, Versailles Fire, and Careflight assisted the sheriff's department, which continues its investigation.
