Five-time PGA Tour winner Rickie Fowler, one of the most popular and recognizable players on the tour, is among the latest players to commit to the 64th The American Express PGA Tour event in La Quinta.

Also among the latest commitments to the $8 million tournament to be played Jan. 19-22 are three past major champions -- Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover and Danny Willett. Those golfers join a field that already has eight of the top 15 players in the world rankings, including five of the top seven players.

The American Express will be played on three courses in La Quinta, the Pete Dye Stadium Course and the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club.

Fowler, who grew up in Murrieta, returns to the tournament for the fourth consecutive year, having finished as high as a tie for 10th in 2020. Fowler has struggled with his game in recent years but showed improvement in the 2021-22 season.

Cink is best known for winning the 2009 British Open in a playoff over Tom Watson. Cink is 49 and will be eligible for the PGA Tour Champions later this year. Glover famously won the U.S. Open that same year, one of his four tour victories. Willett’s most famous moment came in 2016, when the English star won the Masters title.

The American Express field already includes world No. 2 and reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, No. 4 Patrick Cantlay, No. 5 Jon Rahm, No. 6 Xander Schauffele, No. 12 Tony Finau, No. 13 Sam Burns and No. 15 Tom Kim. That makes the field one of the strongest in recent tournament history.

Golfers have until Jan. 13 to commit to the tournament.
