Containment reaches 75% for Ridge Fire near French Gulch

Firefighters have gained the upper hand in their battle against a vegetation fire burning in the Carr Fire burn scar, 20 miles northwest of Redding.

The Ridge Fire was first reported at 2:39 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4 in a rural area north of French Gulch, according to Shasta County spokesperson Tim Mapes.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation order and an evacuation warning on the evening of Aug. 4 for people living near the fire.

9:44 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6: Ridge Fire containment reaches 75%

Fire crews reported that the Ridge Fire burning east of Redding, reached 75% containment as of 6 p.m. on Saturday. The fire's size was 28 acres as of Saturday evening.

No civilians or firefighters were injured and no structures had been threatened or damaged, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's final report on the incident, released at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Fire crews will continue to "patrol the fire for the next several days, moping up smoke and patrollingthe fire," according to Cal Fire's final report on the blaze.

Containment on the Ridge Fire reached 40% Saturday morning as fire crews worked through the night to construct and improve control lines.Those efforts will continue today, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported at 6:30 a.m. The size of the wildfire remains at 20 acres, the same as authorities reported on Friday evening.

5:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4: Ridge Fire grows to 20 acres as firefighters work to contain blaze

The Ridge Fire grew to 20 acres in size as of 5 p.m., according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

It's spreading at "a moderate rate of spread" and isn't contained, Cal Fire said.

The fire is threatening at least five structures, the agency reported. The blaze is burning trees and brush in steep terrain, making it difficult for firefighters to get to the fire, Cal Fire said.

At least 175 firefighters are working to contain the fire, with 16 engines, four bulldozers, three helicopters, six tankers and eight water tenders.

The fire started around 2:39 p.m. on Friday in the 15000 block of Fawn Ridge Drive, at the Trinity Mountain Road intersection in French Gulch. It had spread to a five-acre patch of brush and forest when firefighters arrived, according to Cal Fire.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, Cal Fire said.

4:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4: Evacuation order and warning called for people living near Ridge Fire

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation order for people living near the Ridge Fire, burning in a rural area north of French Gulch in western Shasta County. The order applies to residences on the east side of Trinity Mountain Road, south of Drunken Gulch Road and north of Fawnridge Road.

The sheriff also issued an evacuation warning for residents on the west side of Trinity Mountain Road, south of Drunken Gulch and north of Fawnridge Road.

3:45 p.m. Friday: Ridge Fire burning near French Gulch

A vegetation fire in the area of French Gulch west of Redding was reported Friday afternoon.

Called the Ridge Fire, the blaze is about 30 acres and is burning in the Carr Fire scar, firefighters told emergency dispatchers. It's burning in the area of Fawnridge Road and Trinity Mountain Road.

Crews have asked for additional resources to fight the fire.
