SINGAPORE — A 33-year-old woman almost fed her nine-year-old brother a safety pin, which was buried amid a packet of prawn rolls bought from Sheng Siong supermarket.

The woman, who goes by the name Eileen Lpy on social media, had discovered the safety pin after frying and cutting up the prawn rolls at around 5.03pm on Sunday (16 April).

According to her, the prawn rolls came from the brand Le Bao and were purchased from Sheng Siong outlet at 660A Edgedale Plains in Punggol.

The administrative executive told Yahoo Southeast Asia that she found the incident "ridiculous and scary".

"If I didn't think of helping him cut the prawn rolls into smaller pieces, the whole pin might have been stuck in his throat," she said.

Eileen had posted about the incident on Facebook group Complaint Singapore on Sunday evening.

The post garnered many comments from netizens who were thankful she had cut up the prawn rolls and discovered the safety pin in time.

A netizen pointed out that Le Bao is a Sheng Siong house brand.

Upon sharing the incident with family members, Eileen's family remarked that they noticed food in Singapore is not as safe as it used to be.

Yahoo Southeast Asia has approached Sheng Siong Supermarket for a statement on the incident.
