Rihanna has confirmed she is to voice the character of Smurfette during a surprise appearance at CinemaCon.

The singer, who is expecting her second child with rapper partner ASAP Rocky, confirmed the news that she would be starring in The Smurfs Movie at the Las Vegas event on Friday.

Wearing a denim dress, the star appeared in person at the Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino, making a joke about the role to attendees.

The 35-year-old said, as reported by Variety: “I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but It didn’t work out.”

Meanwhile, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Rihanna said: “I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day,” adding: “I get to show up in my PJs in my third trimester.”

Katy Perry and Demi Lovato have voiced the female character in previous Smurfs projects.

Rihanna has also starred in Ocean’s 8 and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

The singer, who announced she was expecting baby number two during her Superbowl half time show earlier this year, was last seen in an official capacity at the Oscars in March.

Before the ceremony, she shared a video of her son watching the music video for Lift Me Up.

The pop superstar performed her Oscar-nominated song written for Marvel’s blockbuster sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the ceremony on March 12.

On Sunday, the singer shared a close-up photograph of her son’s face, seemingly upset.

She captioned the Instagram post: “My son when he found out his sibling is going to the Oscars and not him.”

She added: “Swipe for [throwback] of my fat man.”

Rihanna shared a short clip of the infant watching her music video for Lift Me Up on a laptop, as he sat on her lap at a dining room table.

The Barbadian singer welcomed her son last year.

Speaking to British Vogue, Rihanna reflected on how her relationship with ASAP Rocky has developed since welcoming their son in May 2022, saying: “We’re best friends with a baby… We have to be on the same page, but we’ve always kind of had that in our relationship.

“Everything changes when you have a baby, but I wouldn’t say it’s done anything but made us closer.”
