Rime Ice-Coated Trees Lining Lake Superior Glitter Under Winter Sun

Trees were covered by beautiful rime ice along the shores of frozen Lake Superior in Ashland, Wisconsin, on January 7.

Cheryl Koval filmed a video that showed the white ice-coated trees glitter under the sun.

“Wow frosty morning beautiful blue skies and rime ice or hoarfrost along the shores of Lake Superior,” Koval wrote on a YouTube page that featured the video.

Rime ice, often confused with hoarfrost, often occurs amid freezing fog. The National Weather Service retweeted Koval’s photos, commenting on the spectacular rime ice. Credit: Cheryl Koval via Storyful
