Rinkes, Barrino, Powers lead local honorees on All-District 5 Basketball Coaches teams

Carrollton's Jaxon Rinkes along with the Malvern duo of J'Allen Barrino and Maddie Powers led Canton Repository-area honorees on the All-District 5 Basketball Coaches boys and girls teams.

Rinkes, a senior point guard for the Warriors, was the Boys Division I-II Player of Year. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists as Carrollton went 21-4 and won a share of the Eastern Buckeye Conference championship. It was the program's first league title in 12 years. Rinkes, who also was EBC Player of the Year, shot 55.0% from the floor and 74.3% from the foul line.

Carrollton's Mike Aukerman was the Boys Division I-II District 5 Coach of the Year.

Barrino, a junior point guard for the Hornets, was the Boys Division III Player of the Year. Barrino averaged 16.5 points, 5.3 assists, 4.4 steals and 4.0 rebounds as Malvern went 24-2, won a fourth straight Inter-Valley Conference North championship and advanced to a fourth straight district final. Barrino, who also was the IVC North Player of the Year, shot an area-best 68.2% from the floor and 73.7% from the foul line.

Malvern's Dennis Tucci and Sandy Valley's Gary Offenberger were the Boys District 5 Division III Co-Coaches of the Year.

Powers, a senior forward for the Hornets (14-9), was the Girls Division IV Player of the Year. She averaged an area-best 25.8 points to go with 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals. She shot 78.1% from the foul line.

Powers' 1,617 career points put her third in Malvern girls basketball history. She holds program records for 3-pointers made in a game (seven), season (69) and career (149) and free throws made in a career (458).

Tusky Valley's Matt Ward was Girls Division III Coach of the Year.
