Ripley Co. Retired Teachers news

Nov. 2—The Ripley County Retired Teachers hosted their fall meeting at the Osgood Town Hall.

After a celebration of autumn including a piano selection of "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" and a Thanksgiving dinner, the members enjoyed a program presented by the principal of the Southeastern Career Center. Adam Pietrykowski acknowledged the several retired teachers who formerly worked at the Career Center and explained the unique qualities of the school, its new programs, and its efforts to attract more students.

This year the RCRTA has promoted its community service project of Wreaths Across Ripley County and the goal of the project to honor, remember, and teach. The fall meeting concluded the collection of monetary donations to the Wreaths endowment fund with a prize drawing.

The RCRTA is a part of Area 10 of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and was proud to hear that a South Ripley Elementary School proposal has been awarded an Active Teacher Grant from the IRT Foundation.

The RCRTA also supports all food pantries in the county and grants monies to all the elementary school nurses in the county twice a year. In addition, many of the RCRTA members team with Ripley County Lions clubs to perform vision screening at area schools.

Gene Pitts is the president of the local group. Ellen Mulford is an officer of the state foundation, and Mark Guard is the IRTA secretary-treasurer. Cheryl Corning serves the retired teachers as the Area 10 director.
