Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, digital editor for The Daily News, and today is Jan. 22, the 22nd day of the year — 343 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1984, Apple’s iconic “1984” commercial aired during the Super Bowl. The spot, promoting the Macintosh computer, ushered in a new age for the technology giant.

• Rhode Islanders sure do love their vanity plates — or do they?
Some time back, Providence Journal reporter Antonia Noori Farzan, who cut her teeth on Malbone Road with the Newport Mercury before moving on to bigger and better things, started posting to her Twitter account the vanity plates she came across during her everyday travels. She's tweeted dozens of pictures, and other Twitter users have gotten into the mix by sending her photos of the ones they've seen.
It got me thinking: Is Rhode Island the most vanity plate-obsessed state? Not even close. That honor belongs to Virginia, where better than 16% of all vehicles have personalized plates. New Hampshire ranks No. 2, and Illinois, Nevada and Montana round out the top five.
Where is Rhode Island? No. 21, with just 3.67% of its plates being of the vanity variety. Find the state-by-state breakdown here.
Perhaps the reason the Ocean State ranks so low is because vanity plates aren't cheap. Only one state in the country — Arizona — requires no charge for the upgrade. Virginia has a $10 charge, and Florida is $12. In Rhode Island, you'll need to pay between $67 and $90 for personalized plates. See that state-by-state breakdown here.
