Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, digital editor for The Daily News, and today is Nov. 27, the 331st day of the year — 34 days remain in 2021. On this day in 1924, the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — then known as the Macy’s Christmas Parade — was held in New York City and drew roughly 10,000 spectators.

• Today, of course, is Small Business Saturday, a chance to support the local shops in Newport County as you begin your holiday shopping. Reporter Savana Dunning spoke to a number of business owners in downtown Newport ahead of the weekend, and they are pretty optimistic about this year's event (and the weather looks good, too!).
So where should you go on Saturday? How about the new kids on the block? During the past year, Savana, our main business writer, has profiled many of the new businesses and shops in the area. Small Business Saturday provides a good opportunity for you to check them out, buy some goods and perhaps pick up a gift card:
First on this list is Folk Vintage Co., which is holding its grand opening today. Savana spoke with owner Sydney Gordon earlier this week.
Salve Regina University graduate Jacqueline Connor opened her own charcuterie board business called Bellevue Boards.
Foodlove Market set up shop in Middletown and has a lot of the tasty goodies you'd find at Newport Restaurant Group eateries.
Kings and Queens of the Court opened in June and offers basketball-themed athletic and leisure clothing for kids.
Former Armory Antique Marketplace vendor Will Silva found a new spot for his business, Oceanside Antiques & Collectibles, off Memorial Boulevard.
Eileen Pollina, a graphic designer who hails from Portsmouth, opened Eileen on Thames on, you guessed it, Thames Street.
Another person who grew up locally, Tiverton native Steve Iwanski, has a passion for books and established his own shop, Charter Books, on Broadway. Side note: Steve lives in my neighborhood and his mother-in-law reads Rise & Shine! every day all the way from Portland, Oregon!

Sisters Hattie and Sarah Young grew up working on the family farm in Little Compton. Now they're business owners at Young Designs Floral Studio on Thames Street.
As a guitar player, I was always amazed by the lack of music store options in Newport. That changed this year when Newport Music opened on Bellevue Avenue.
Ohanga, located at Brick Market Place, was started by Subham Sett and Yuping Wang and offers items — from food and home goods to paintings and visual art — made by local artisans.
Brianna Ferriera, a fifth-generation Newporter, came up with the idea for Oak Bar on the heels of a trip to Italy.
After having some trouble finding employees, Marco's Cafe on Spring Street recently opened. Give them a try as you make your way downtown.
Wherever you end up on Saturday, make sure to support the hard-working small business owners. Today is their day. And kudos to Savana for always getting the word out about a new business in town.
• With Thanksgiving behind us, it's time to start thinking about Christmas and visits from jolly ol' Saint Nick. He'll be making a stop to Long Wharf Mall today at 4:30 p.m. as Newport in Bloom holds its inaugural tree-lighting ceremony. Learn more here.
• There will be a Christmas tree and wreath sale to support the Middletown High School Class of 2022 today from 1 to 3 p.m. at Gaudet Middle School. Santa also make an appearance (he's a busy guy). Learn more here.
• The "Under the Radar" program on WGBH out of Boston has a tribute to longtime Newport Folk and Jazz festival producer George Wein. Listen to it here.
• Because of inclement weather in the forecast, the Illuminated Boat Parade scheduled for Friday night in Newport was called off. There will be no makeup date.
• The New England Patriots host the Tennessee Titans in an AFC showdown on Sunday at 1 p.m. Send your predictions (winner and final score) to sbarrett@newportri.com, and whoever comes closest gets a shout in Monday's newsletter. For what it's worth, I have no confidence in the Titans, so the Pats come away with a 24-19 victory.
