Rise & Shine! Your Newport County guide for June 20

Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, managing editor for The Daily News, and today is June 20, the 171st day of the year — 194 days remain in 2022. On this day 1963, to ease the threat of inadvertently starting a nuclear war, the United States and the Soviet Union agree to establish a “hot line” between the nations.

Here & Now

• Newport and Middletown will kick off their public information sessions for the proposed unified school district today with a pair of in person meetings. Both will be held at the Wyndham Newport Hotel, 240 Aquidneck Ave., in Middletown.

The first is scheduled for 3:30-5:30 p.m., and the second from 6-8 p.m. Both will be available in English and Spanish. If you can't make either of those, virtual sessions are being offered later in the week. Learn more here.
