Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, managing editor for The Daily News, and today is July 11, the 192nd day of the year — 173 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton in their famed duel on a bank of the Hudson River in Weehawken, New Jersey. Hamilton, the country’s first Secretary of the Treasury, died the following day.

Here & Now

• We're all feeling the pinch at the gas pump these days (that trip to Pennsylvania was brutal). But a longtime service station owner in Tiverton is doing his part to relieve some of that sting by dropping his prices about 50 cents below the state average.

George Alzaibak, who migrated to the United States from Lebanon in the 1980s, has been shown great appreciation from the community for his gesture while many struggle to pay their bills. I went out to his station last week to talk to George about why he's doing it. You can read my story here.

• We're all familiar with the name Claiborne Pell, the longtime and well-respected U.S. senator who made his home in Newport. Now, one of his grandsons is looking to enter the political forum as an at-large candidate for the Newport City Council. Reporter Savana Dunning has the story.

• In his monthly column, Editor Will Richmond writes about the ways The Daily News can help you spread the word about upcoming events. Read it here.

• Find the latest crop of reader-submitted images with the newest edition of Your Photos. There are some really great ones this month.

• Sports reporter Steve Rogers continues with his postseason coverage from the spring with his boys lacrosse unsung heroes. See who they are here.

• The Portsmouth Town Council will meet tonight, and among the items on the docket is the reconsideration of a formerly approved pilot program to allow cameras on both sides of the Mount Hope Bridge. Find the full agenda below.

• The Tiverton Harbor Commission will meet tonight to discuss a 52-page working draft of its Coast Waters Management Plan, which includes a section on the hot topic of aquaculture. Find the full agenda below.

• Also in Tiverton, the Town Council will meet tonight, and among the items on the docket is a resolution seeking to put before voters in November a referendum question regarding marijuana operations in town. Find the full agenda below.

• The Newport Planning Board is set to meet tonight, and among the items up for discussion is the potential demolition of a Thames Street building "to provide for future development." Find the full agenda below.

• The state Department of Transportation has provided its roadwork schedule for the coming week in Newport County and throughout the state. Find it here.

• Main draw play at the Infosys Hall of Fame Open kicks off today, with former champion Steve Johnson among those taking the court. See the schedule here.

• Newport Police are warning about a scam: If you received a text message (I was one of them) offering $10 off a Newport RI Police Department shirt, don't click on the link. It's a hoax.

That golden dome sits atop Jesus Savoir Church on Broadway. Kudos to Ann Arnold, Jason Dunn, Mary Alice Jerome, Mary Cunningham, Mary Mack, Peter McCarthy and Liz Gagne, all of whom correctly identified it.
