Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, managing editor for The Daily News, and today is July 13, the 194th day of the year — 171 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1960, Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kennedy gained the Democratic party’s nomination for the presidency, defeating Texas Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson. The next day, Johnson was named as Kennedy’s running mate on the ticket.

Here & Now

• If you have any plans to see "Where the Crawdads Sing," a film based on the 2018 novel of the same name written by Delia Owens, there's a Newport connection.

City resident, Thompson Middle School music instructor and trumpeter extraordinaire Don Chilton was contacted by last fall by the composer of the production, who was interested in having Chilton play his conch shells for the film's score.

And that's not the only time Hollywood came calling. Reporter Zane Wolfang recently caught up with Chilton to talk about his experiences. Read his story here. FYI: "Where the Crawdads Sing" is set to premiere in theaters Friday.

• Nearly five weeks after the IT department in Newport discovered malware in the city’s internal computer systems, officials remain quiet on the issue. But they're hoping to release more detailed information about what happened and what they are doing to fix it later this week. Reporter Savana Dunning has the latest.

• Highlighted by the sale of a waterfront home in the Island Park section of Portsmouth for $1.85 million, find the latest home sales and property transactions in Newport County here.

• It's been quite a few years since Andy Murray has played on the courts at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. And while he'll one day be giving an induction speech in Newport, his playing days aren't over. On Tuesday, he cruised into the second round of the Hall of Fame Open. Providence Journal sports reporter Bill Koch writes about his return here.

• Speaking of Cardines Field, Gov. Dan McKee will be in Newport tonight to throw out the first pitch at the Newport Gulls game on Military Appreciation Night.

Trivia answer

Q: Since the tournament's inception in 1976, there have been several corporate sponsors of the ATP World Tour stop in Newport, the most recent being technology giant Infosys. What was the first company to put its name behind the event?

A: Miller Lite. Many of you guessed Virginia Slims, but that was for the WTA tournament here. Miller Lite was sponsor from 1976-84 and again from 1991-2003. Other sponsors included Volvo (1985-90), Campbell's soup (2004-12) and Dell Technologies (2017-18). Kudos to Edna Beal, Mark Young, Mary Alice Jerome, Richard Hunt and Patrick O’Connell, all of whom got this one right.
