Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, managing editor for The Daily News, and today is Aug. 17, the 229th day of the year — 136 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1978, the Double Eagle II, steered by Ben Abruzzo, Maxie Anderson and Larry Newman, became the first hot air ball to complete a transatlantic flight when it landed in a barley field in France 137 hours after taking off from Presque Isle, Maine.

Here & Now

• Got an extra $25 million hanging around? If so, you can purchase a historic Middletown estate that is being offered for the first time in generations. Sea View Villa, located at 333 Tuckerman Ave., on Easton's Point, has been owned by the same family since 1945, and if they get the asking price, it'll set a residential record in Middletown.

I spoke this week to the listing agent, who provided some fascinating details about the history of the property, as well as some stellar images. Check it out here.

• Speaking of real estate, highlighted by the sale of two Jamestown waterfront homes that each went for more than $1 million, find the latest property transactions in Newport County here.

• Looking for a evening on the town? There are two new places in Newport — a posh event space and a New Orleans-style speakeasy — adding to the city's nightlife. I write about both of them here.

• Have an idea to grow the marine-based industry in Tiverton? The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is seeking input for developing and operating the former Chase Marina facility at 169 Riverside Drive. Learn more here.

Trivia answer

Q: This Newport breakfast spot, operated by a husband and wife and known for decorating the walls with pictures of their customers, enjoyed a 23-year run before abruptly closing in February 2006. What was the name of it?

Photographs of customers adorned the wall of Charlie's Good Egg, a breakfast spot at 12 Broadway in Newport.

A: Charlie's Good Egg. Charlie and Jean Sullivan ran the restaurant at 12 Broadway until they were suddenly evicted after 23 years. Great job by Pat Murphy, the only person who got this one correct.
