Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, digital editor for The Daily News, and today is March 2, the 61st day of the year — 304 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1965, the movie version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music,” starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, debuted in New York. It won Best Picture at the Academy Awards the following year.

Here & Now

• Last year, when a patron left a negative online review about the fish and chips at O'Brien's Pub, the Thames Street restaurant decided to turn it into a positive by donating 10% of sales of the dish to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

The response was so strong that Kerrie Philbin, general manager at O'Brien's, opted to make it an annual fundraiser. Starting today and through April 15, when you order the fish and chips at O'Brien's — and several other local restaurants — a portion of the sales will benefit Conexión Latina, an organization that supports the area's growing Hispanic population.

Why Conexión Latina? Philbin said she saw firsthand the work the team there does when one of her kitchen staff members needed help. Read the full story from reporter Savana Dunning here.

• Speaking of food, Jersey Mike's sub shop in Middletown opens today, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Learn more here.

• The third man wanted in connection with the Feb. 14 shooting death of 25-year-old Yordi Arevalo has been apprehended. Reporter Laura Damon has the latest here.

• The Tiverton School Committee voted unanimously — after a lot of discussion — to lift the mask mandate in the district later this week. Savana Dunning will have the recap coming up this morning on NewportRI.com.

• Gov. Dan McKee, Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos and other state officials will be in Newport today at 2 p.m. to tour new units of affordable housing at the Newport Housing Authority. It's one of a trio stops McKee will make throughout Rhode Island as he marks one year as governor.

• The Newport City Council will hold a public workshop tonight on how to use roughly $7 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds. This meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held inside the council chambers at City Hall.

• You all are simply the best. During the two-day, two-year $22 subscription deal we ran last week, The Daily News garnered 50 new subscribers. That ranked No. 1 nationwide for Gannett newspapers in our circulation category.

Trivia answer

Q: In 2003, the Middletown Square shopping plaza opened on West Main Road. Many of the stores there have faced the test of time, including Barnes & Noble, Michaels and Petco, but one of the original major retailers in the space, a home goods chain, closed after just a few years. Name the store.

A: Linens 'N Things. The retail chain shuttered in 2008 and became a Sports Authority sporting goods store. That closed and it's currently an Ulta makeup shop and DSW shoe store. Kudos to Edna Beal, Christine Marchese, Beverly Cardoza, Mary Cunningham, Jonathan Harley, Ellen Vadney, Danette Walsh, Norma Diore, Cherie Saunders and Lisa Ferreira, all of whom answered correctly.
