Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, digital editor for The Daily News, and today is Jan. 12, the 12th day of the year — 353 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1966, the television series “Batman,” starring Adam West as the title character and Burt Ward as Robin, debuted on ABC. The show lasted 120 episodes over three seasons.

Here & Now

• In the early portion of last year, I got in touch with a few dozen local restaurant owners or general managers and asked them what their most popular dishes were in 2020. That was a bit of a strange year, with a least a portion of it dedicated only to takeout at the start of the pandemic.

From lobster rolls to doughnuts, there was a wide range of answers and it was a fun list to compile (you can check it out here). Well, I'm planning to do it again.

If you run a restaurant, cafe, snack bar or other kind of eatery, and you want to be included in this year's "Most Popular Menu Item" list, send an email to sbarrett@newportri.com. Keep in mind, the answers should be items in units sold, not total revenue.

• Colbea Enterprises has made clear its intention to demolish Bishop's 4th Street Diner site to make away for a new Seasons convenience store and bigger gas station. A ruling Monday night from the Newport Planning Board could put those plans on hold. Reporter Sean Flynn has the story.

• In my latest "Some Local Sports Stuff" column, I write about a recent Portsmouth High School graduate who could find himself playing for a world lacrosse championship — with Scotland. There are other little tidbits and a trivia question in there, too. Check it out here.

• The Department of Environmental Management hopes to work with scientists from Mystic Aquarium to figure out why a humpback whale turned up dead on a Little Compton beach this weekend. Read more here.

• No injuries were reported after a fire in Portsmouth on Tuesday morning, but a dog was found in the home and did not survive. Read more from reporter Laura Damon here.

• Find the latest home sales and property transactions in Newport County here.

• The Newport City Council will convene tonight, and it should be noted this meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. Find the agenda and login information below.

• Gov. Dan McKee and officials with the state Department of Health will provide a COVID briefing this morning at 10:30 a.m. According to the governor's office, topics to be discussed are "an update on hospital staffing supports and testing and vaccination capacity."

• Speaking of the Department of Heath, the updated town-by-town COVID case numbers are expected to be updated today. If that is the case, I'll have them for you on NewportRI.com.

Trivia answer

Q: In December 1989, the Middletown Town Council asked the state for financial aid to purchase this 2.4-acre parcel of land, owned by Elias Lahoud and long eyed for a four-story, 60-room hotel that drew opposition from neighbors. What was that property?

A: Atlantic Beach. The town never bought the property. Instead, it was sold to Harry and Peter Kyriakides, who owned the nearby Johnny's House of Seafood. The brothers then opened a new spot called the Atlantic Beach Club. Kudos to Len Panaggio, Art Hamilton, David Behan and Edna Beal, all of whom answered this week's question correctly.
