• As COVID-19 cases mount nationally and throughout the state, four out of the five counties in Rhode Island are now considered to be in a "high" risk level. Newport County is the outlier — classified as "medium" — but that's not to say the numbers here aren't on the rise. Here's a look at the most recent weekly case totals as reported by the state Department of Health:
April 7-13: This is a 7-day span in which 200 total cases were reported. That breaks down to an average of 28.6 cases daily.

• There’s a new tenant for the Gateway Visitors Center. The City Council on May 11 unanimously approved a lease agreement that would allow the Newport Community School to move into the second and third floors of the building. Find details here.
• The Newport Oyster & Chowder Festival will take over Bowen's Wharf on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.to 6 p.m. each day. The event is open to the public, admission is free and all food will be available for purchase directly from vendors. Learn more here.
• All are invited to enjoy “Elliot’s Ride for Everyone” when Ocean Avenue opens to people biking and strolling — and closes to cars — Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m. Learn more here.
• The businesses on Franklin Street in Newport — including the newly opened Man Overboard — will host the Franklin Street Stroll on Saturday from 2-6 p.m. Learn more here.
• A fundraiser to benefit Newport Babe Ruth will be held Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at O'Brien's Pub. Learn more here.
• In more fundraiser news, the Tiverton High School senior class is hosting a spaghetti and meatball dinner Saturday at Family Ties restaurant from 5-8 p.m. Learn more here.
