Risk of strong to severe storms after mid-week

A front has dipped farther south but is still aiding in keeping our skies unsettled. We are seeing some spotty showers to start the day.

This chance will stick around through the day. Most of the rain will be light but there could be a few embedded heavier showers.

More clouds and some moisture will cause temperatures to be a bit cooler today. Upper 60s and lower 70s will still not be too bad though.

While an isolated rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out today, severe weather is not expected. An isolated severe storm risk barely skims Kay County in Oklahoma and that threat of a stronger storm is mainly for tonight.

The front south of the area will begin to head back in our direction late tonight. This will spark a better chance for showers and storms, especially between Central and Eastern Kansas.

We will need to keep an eye on storms into early Thursday. They will be capable of heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds.

Even though Thursday starts with active weather it will be the latter part of the day that will need extra attention. Strong to severe storms will be possible by late afternoon and evening. All forms of severe weather will be possible.

Early showers and storms clear out to the east into the afternoon. New storms begin to the develop to the west as early as 3pm or 4pm.

In addition to stormy activity there will also be High Fire Danger to the west on Thursday, especially before the severe threat gets going late in the day. Temperatures will be warmer and winds will be gusty.

The severe threat continues after dark and into the overnight. Storms keep tracking east into early Friday morning.

Friday’s severe threat will be highly dependent on how early Friday morning plays out. If the atmosphere is able to recover there could be new storm development between Central and Eastern Kansas late in the day.

Severe storms will be possible again Saturday late in the afternoon and during the evening.

The greatest risk will be in South Central Kansas. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, please be sure there is a safe place nearby.

Sunday does not look as damp or stormy as moisture starts to pull away from us. Severe weather for our area is also not expected Sunday.

Early next week is looking drier but the break between systems may be brief. As we get ready to head into May, temperatures on any cooler days will not take too much of a dip.
