River Action distributes rain barrels in its Retain the Rain project

Hundreds of rain barrels are being delivered to people around the Quad Cities as part of a preservation project Retain the Rain.

River Action is providing 400 of he barrels for businesses and other organizations as a way to prevent river pollution.

Business and organizations could pick up the barrels. Some were donated to Habitat for Humanity, as well community gardens around the Quad Cities.

River Action’s Executive Director Kathy Wine says the barrels will help everyone in the Quad Cities. “It’s keeping polluted water from getting in to our streams and rivers,” she said. “It’s also recharging our soils and capturing rain water for re-use, which every business and citizen can use.”
