The fashion story of 2016 so far is all about positive change. Ashley Graham became the first plus-sized model to rock the cover of Sports Illustrated, while Harnaam Kaur challenged beauty ideals to become the first woman to walk the catwalk with a full beard. Body positivity is having a moment. And it’s about time too.
So continuing on the inclusivity theme, step forward River Island, who are adding their mighty weight to the size-positive movement by introducing their first plus-size collection. And boy is it good.
Joining other fashion retailers who’ve finally realised there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all, the High Street fave has released a totally on-point collection incorporating everything from classic wardrobe staples, like leather and denim to more eclectic party pieces like colour block bodycon dresses and bold-patterned culottes.

To model their new range, River Island turned to plus-size model and superstar Candice Huffine, who didn’t need to be asked twice to front the project.
“I’m a massive RI fan! I always race to store when I get to the UK,” she explained. “The fact that River Island is extended [their] size range and staying true to what we know and love the brand for, is perfection. It’s clear from the designs that they have been made to suit a curvy woman’s body.”
And fan-girling the entire collection, Candice found it tricky to pick a favourite piece.
“I was going bananas over everything during the photo shoot!” she laughed. “The lace up bodysuits and bardot dress are so hot, I also loved the printed wide leg trousers with the matching jacket. The denim and knits are amazing as well.”

The 75 piece range comes in sizes 18-24 UK and will be available initially in top stores and online and will offer fashion followers everything from stand-out-from-the-crowd party dresses and work-wear staples, to cult core basics such as the Molly stretch skinny jean and staple black leather biker jacket.

Marketing Director Josie Roscop says “We’re excited about giving great fashion to more women, we feel this is the right time for the brand to expand our size range offering. Ultimately, it’s about fashion and being inclusive.”
