River View BOE notes

WARSAW − The River View Board of Education recently met to conduct routine business of the district.

Donations for January included $500 from the Ohio Arts Council for a symphony trip, $1,621.95 from an anonymous donor for student sports passes, $330 from three donors for playground equipment, $700 from seven donors for Paw Print advertising and $800 for RV Families from 20 donors.

The softball field was approved to be named Bill Rice Softball Field. Parnell & Associates were approved as contractors for the bus loop project at the junior high school. A memorandum of understanding was approved for College Credit Plus/Stark State College. College Credit Plus classes will be weighed on a 5.0 scale starting next school year, previously the only classes on a 5.0 scale were math, science, social studies and English.

Hunter Morrison will be a substitute custodian. Approved as driving instructors through the MVESC driving school program were Jennifer Black, Barb Funk, Richard Hall and Homer Weekley. Shelly Brown is going from being a paraprofessional at Warsaw Elementary to a Title One paraprofessional with no change to hours or pay. Alyssa Blair will be a paraprofessional at Warsaw Elementary at 5 3/4 hours a day for five days a week.

David Lapp of the school board will participate in the district's health plan paying full premium monthly rates. Lee Jane Williamson will be a consultant for the district and board of education for $55 an hour for 2023 and to not exceed 50 hours. The board approved $25,000 of life insurance to classified staff members at no cost.

High school GAP program teachers will have the pay rate go to $35 an hour extending back to Dec. 6. Those teachers are Ken Henry, Karin Moran, Danielle Casey, Darcy Miller, Brittany Needles and Melanie Kunze. Approved for the junior high GAP program were Ashley Storms and Mary Bell.

James Rose resigned as high school secretary. Substitutes for food service will be Tracy Leigh, Sue Renner-Miller and Baylie Powelson.

Dave Kridler will travel with the girls soccer team on Oct. 7 to Ellis School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The contract for Justin Williamson to serve as a volunteer assistant softball coach was rescinded. Sports contracts awarded were Megan Philabaum as head girls track coach; Vince Andrews as head boys track coach; Shane Philabaum as assistant girls track coach; Heather Cochran as assistant boys track coach; Austin Philabaum, Raychel Smalley and Jesse Cochran as junior high track coaches; and Megan Randles and Jason Williamson as volunteer assistant softball coaches.
