Hurricane Ian caused flooding on the Riverdale campus. While repairs happen there, the school’s classes will temporarily relocate to the high school campus.

Parents and grandparents like Joann Vega attended an open house on Wednesday night to go over the plan. Vega said she was concerned about safety but learned the elementary schoolers will be separated from the high schoolers.

Vega said it’s a scary transition but better than the alternative.

“I’d rather them do that then to have home schooling or to have different schools,” Vega said.

The school district said there is no timeline for when the Riverdale campus will reopen. The district said it’s working with a contractor to clean up and sanitize the school.
