‘Riverdale’ Star Lili Reinhart to Lead Amazon’s ‘Chemical Hearts’

Lili Reinhart will star in Amazon Studios’ “Chemical Hearts,” which will also be the first film she will executive produce.

Richard Tanne wrote and directed the coming-of-age drama that is based on the beloved novel “Our Chemical Hearts” by Krystal Sutherland. The film is currently shooting in New Jersey.

Page Fifty-Four’s Alex Saks and Tanne are producing, while Jamin O’Brien (“Eight Grade”) is executive producing alongside Reinhart.

“Chemical Hearts” follows 17-year-old Henry Page who has never been in love, but on the first day of senior year, he meets transfer student Grace Town (Reinhart), and knows everything is about to change.

“We are thrilled to work with this talented team to bring to life a beautiful story of first love and heartbreak,” said Julie Rapaport, Co-Head of Movies at Amazon Studios. “Krystal Sutherland’s novel captured the hearts of readers around the world, and we are excited to bring this film to our global Prime Video customers.”

The production team is working with RespectAbility, a nonprofit that focuses on ensuring the accurate portrayal of characters with disabilities. Reinhart’s character walks with the assistance of a cane.

Reinhart is best known for her role as Betty Cooper in “Riverdale,” and she will next star opposite Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu in “Hustlers.” She also recently starred in Melanie Laurent’s “Galveston” opposite Elle Fanning and Ben Foster. Reinhart is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content.

Tanne’s first feature film was “Southside With You” about Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date story. He is represented by UTA, Artists First and attorney Debbie Von Arx.

“Chemical Hearts” is an Amazon Original produced for Amazon Prime Video.
