Riverdale's Camila, Lili and Madelaine get real about lockdown breakups
Riverdale stars Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch opened up about going through breakups while in lockdown, saying that all going through them at the same time brought them closer together.
Mendes opened up about the bond the three of them share after starring in five seasons of the hit show together, saying that all going through breakups in the midst of a pandemic only made their friendship even stronger.
"We all got out of relationships at the same time and then went through this pandemic together," she told Paper Magazine. "And now we've been bonded by how much change has happened.
"Me, Madelaine and Lili, specifically, we've never been closer than we have this season. It's really nice to have them, to feel like I do have friendships here — meaningful ones."
Mendes and her boyfriend of one year, photographer Grayson Vaughan split in February 2021. A source told E!, "There was no drama at all, and they are still friends. Their relationship just ran its course."
Meanwhile, Petsch and musician Travis Mills split that same month after three years together, and a few months later in May Reinhart and co-star Cole Sprouse split after three years together.
Elsewhere in the interview Mendes spoke about what it's like to star on a cult show like Riverdale, saying that after five series of wild storylines and supernatural plots, nothing surprises her anymore.
"When we get a script, I know what to expect," she explains. "And it's usually going to be something absurd and insane that could not possibly make sense. I feel like logic can be boring on a show like ours, you know?"
Just going on the recent alien storyline, we definitely do know.
