Riverfest, July 24

This free street festival in Narrowsburg features a dog parade, art poster auction, artisan market, live performances, food and drink, kids activities, and much more, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The day begins with River Dogs on Parade (register your dog in advance, $10, by calling DVAA at 845-252-7576 or sign up at 9 am in front of Narrowsburg Feed & Grain). There will be artisans selling handcrafts in wood, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and painting. Riverfest also gives visitors a chance to learn about environmental and service organizations via booths for many local non-profits. Orange County Fair, thru July 31

The Orange County Fair continues thru July 31 with a lineup of musical performances in a new amphitheater, the Royal Hanneford Big-Top Circus, The All New Benjamin Jackson Comedy Hypnosis Show and the Banana Derby. Fireworks will be held July 22, 29. Fair hours are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4 p.m.-11 p.m. weekdays; 1-11 p.m. weekends. Fair will be closed Mondays-Wednesdays. Admission is $10 adults; $7 seniors (65 years and older) $7 children (7-12 years old); free for children 6 years and younger. Unlimited ride specials are $30 per day. 'Sultans of Swing,' July 23

The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra (GNSO) presents its annual Summer Pops Concert as a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. "Sultans of Swing" performance is at 4 p.m. at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. Tickets are $25-$50 and may be purchased at the door, by calling 845-913-7157 or go to www.newburghsymphony.org.

The 8th Annual MAD Celebration of the Arts Expo, July 23

The Kingston Midtown Arts District (MAD) is bringing back its Arts Expo event on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Kingston Center of SUNY Ulster at 94 Mary’s Avenue in Midtown. The free, family-friendly expo will feature workshops, community art making and demonstrations. Family-friendly, hands-on art workshops and demos in an array of disciplines showcases Kingston’s creative community of working artists

Hudson Valley Jazz Festival, August 18-21

This year marks the 13th season for the festival. Concerts are held in a variety of settings from parks to libraries to restaurants and performing arts centers. Many of the shows are free, the rest very modestly priced. This season, performances include Joe Vincent Tranchina's Composers 4-um, including Eric Person, Robert Kopec and Peter O'Brien presenting original work. Unison Arts in New Paltz has two shows with area keyboard artists Neil Alexander and Rave Tesar. UpFront Gallery in Port Jervis has The Rick Savage Quartet with drumming legend Eliot Zigmund. Kaya Nicole performs in Port Chester as does Slide Attack at the lakeside at Thomas Morahan Park in Greenwood Lake. "On The Lawn" in Sugar Loaf will feature The Hudson Valley Jazz Sextet . 'Danny and The Deep Blue Sea,' Aug. 6,7

River Rep Theatre has added additional performances of John Patrick Shanley's classic play "Danny and The Deep Blue Sea," 7 p.m. Saturday Aug. 6, and 2 p.m. Sunday Aug. 7. Performances are held at the Delaware Valley Opera Center, 6692 NY-52, Lake Huntington. Shanley's work is a poignant love story about two damaged outcasts who discover redemption and release in a Bronx dive bar. Get thee to the New York Renaissance Faire! You'll be transported to 16th-century Elizabethan England for a day at the annual theatrical event in Sterling Forest. Both the young and the young at heart will find plenty of activities including rides, 16th-century games, stage shows, arts, crafts, food, vendors, music and dance, and for cosplay aficionados, the sights of knights, dames, royal pipers and pirates will not disappoint. Tickets: $18-$35; a season pass is $225. Dutchess County Fair, Aug. 23-28

The 176th fair returns in 2022. The daily fair hours for 2022 will be: Tues-Sat 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Fairgoers are encouraged to buy tickets online as long lines are expected and staffing shortages mean there will be limited person-to-person window sales. Adult admission is $13.50 (+ $1.50 convenience fee); children 11 and under are free. Parking is free. For 2022, ride all day wristbands are $25 (with $1.50 convenience fee). Day of the fair gate admission is $18 Tuesday-Sunday; Ride all Day wristbands are $30. Onion Festival, Sept. 4

The annual Onion Festival will take place at PLAV pavilion in Pine Island with 18-time Grammy winner Jimmy Sturr & His Orchestra starting at 2 p.m. The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce will sponsor their annual onion eating contest with cash prizes to be awarded to the winner.  The festival is held rain or shine. Free parking.
