Riverfront Trail maintenance starts Monday
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction’s second phase of maintenance on the Riverfront Trail started Monday. The section closed for maintenance runs from the Redlands Parkway Bridge to Junior Service League Park.
Trent Prall, public works director for the City of Grand Junction tells WesternSlopeNow the trail was long overdue for a revamp.
“The existing surface is asphalt, and over the last 30 to 35 years, it had developed large cracks in it, which made it rather uncomfortable for most wheeled modes of transportation.”
The trail will have detours in place while the asphalt is replaced with concrete.
“We’re asking for folks to go out and around Junior Service League Park and get onto Redlands Parkway itself, or to get onto the Fruita section of the Riverfront Trail,” Prall said, adding that those traveling in the area should be cautious of their surroundings.
Maintenance is expected to be completed at the end of November, weather permitting. For cyclists with questions on the detours, Prall says to head to the City of Grand Junction’s website and social media pages for more information.
