Good morning, neighbors! It's me, Diane Witek, your host of the Riverhead Daily.

First, today's weather:

Breezy with partial sunshine. High: 46, low: 31.

Here are the top stories in Riverhead today:

  1. Due to a dramatic decline in NYC COVID-19 cases, Gov. Kathy Hochul is lifting the indoor mask mandate for New York businesses. The policy shift comes as New York makes "tremendous progress" in the fight against the coronavirus with sharp drops in new cases, positivity and hospitalizations, the governor said Wednesday. Businesses can still require masking on their own, Hochul said. (Patch)

  2. Hometown spirit was in full swing Tuesday as the Riverhead varsity cheer team performed a Nationals Showcase before heading off to the finals in Florida. The team left at 5 a.m. Wednesday for the trip to Florida. They have also qualified for the counties with a Top 5 finish. (Riverhead Patch)

  3. Reported by LI Business News, Stony Brook University Hospital is celebrating four consecutive years of being named to America’s 100 Best Hospitals in the country for clinical excellence by Healthgrades. It places the Suffolk facility in the top 2 percent of all hospitals “for clinical care and patient outcomes across treatment of the most common conditions and procedures.” Stony Brook University states that last fall, the Hospital was recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery™, one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention™ for seven consecutive years, one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care™ for eight consecutive years and one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care™ for seven years in a row.
