Riverside Fire Department to kick off Fire Prevention Week with a neighborhood blitz
The Riverside Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross to conduct a door-to-door fire safety and smoke detector blitz in a neighborhood near the location of a recent fatal fire, according to Riverside Fire Inspector, Roger Dilts.

To kick off fire prevention week, fire service professionals will be checking that residents in the area have functioning smoke alarms and will be able to install new smoke detectors if they find a home with a non-functioning alarm, the spokesperson said.
Fire crews will meet at the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church parking lot in Riverside on October 8 at 8:30a.m. the release said.
This inspection comes after a fatal fire that occured in Riverside in late July. The release said that most in home fatal fires occur due to inefficient smoke alarms.

When crews arrived on scene, they quickly extinguished the fire that was existing in the front of the house, the spokesperson said.
A person was unable to escape the fire and was found to be deceased.
Crews discovered there were three smoke alarms with no batteries inside of them during the search of the home, according to the fire inspector.
