Riverside High student to compete on 'American Idol'

Another season of "American Idol" returns this weekend, and Beaver Valley viewers can cheer on a local contestant.

Morgan Gruber, a senior at Riverside High, will compete on network TV's famed singing contest.

A digital billboard popped up this week in Ellwood City, touting Gruber as a Season 20 "American Idol" contestant and encouraging locals to tune in to support her.

A representative for Superjuice, the company handling publicity for "American Idol," confirmed Gruber is a contestant during the season that begins Sunday on ABC.

In a Facebook post, Gruber invited people to tune in to American Idol" to see what celebrity judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie say about her, and to follow her on Instagram and TikTok at @itsmorgangruber

Brian Churovia, Riverside High vice principal, described Gruber as a good student who's focused on a music career.

Gruber is a member of the New Castle Playhouse Mini-Stars.

"American Idol" airs Sundays at 8 p.m.
