Rivertowns School District Voters Guide

RIVERTOWNS, NY — New York residents are asked to vote on their local school district's budget and board of education by mail this year because of the new coronavirus pandemic. New York's 700 districts ordered absentee ballots and envelopes for every registered voter.

That meant that problems such as the paper shortage plaguing communities during the beginning of the pandemic became problems for the districts.

Under Gov. Andrew Cuomo's executive order, ballots must be returned to the District Clerk by 5 p.m. June 9 though some political officials are trying to have the deadline extended.

Here are fast facts about the ballots in Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson and Irvington.

Dobbs Ferry School District

Voting information

Board of Education

There are three candidates running for two Board of Education positions: They are incumbent Tracy Baron, Massimo Bufalini and Hudson Trader. School trustees serve three year terms and are unpaid.

School budget

  • Proposed for 2020-21: $47,065,725

  • Increase over current spending: 1.25 percent

  • Tax levy increase: 3.87 percent

If not mailed, ballots can be dropped off in a drop box on the day of the vote (June 9 only) inside the High School door by the Business Office.

Hastings-on-Hudson School District

There are seven candidates running for two Board of Education positions: They are Jeremy Galland, Nina Segal Kennedy, Donna Liparulo, Darren McDermott, Joanne Pedro-Scardino, incumbent Doug Sundheim and Jessica Woodhouse. School trustees serve three year terms and are unpaid.

School budget

  • Proposed for 2020-21: $51,660,159

  • Increase over current spending: 0.73 percent

  • Tax levy increase: 3.09 percent

Irvington School District

Board of Education

There are three candidates running for three Board of Education positions: They are incumbent Brian Friedman, incumbent Maura Gedid and Jayne Wissner. School trustees serve three year terms and are unpaid.

School budget

  • Proposed for 2020-21: $64,556,500

  • Increase over current spending: 2.50 percent

  • Tax levy increase: 3.77 percent

If not mailed, ballots can be dropped off in the secure dropbox outside the District Office entrance on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9 from 9 am - 5 pm.
