Riverview man shot pregnant woman in front of child during road rage incident: MCSO

PALMETTO, Fla. (WFLA) — A Riverview man was accused of shooting a pregnant woman in the stomach in front of a child on Sunday afternoon.

Vincent Steele, 50, was merging onto US-41 North when he tried to pass a pickup and hit the bumper, according to a release from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

He lost control of his BMW during the collision and ended up in the grass along the shoulder. According to MCSO, witnesses saw the pickup stop to check on Steele.

Steele was accused of getting out of his car, walking up to the passenger side of the truck and firing seven rounds into it. The passenger, identified as a 36-year-old woman who was pregnant with twins, was shot multiple times in her lower torso.

The driver, the victim’s fiancé, sped off and rushed her to Manatee Memorial Hospital. She was then taken to Tampa General Hospital for surgery. Neither unborn child was shot.

As of this report, both the mother and the twins are in stable condition. The driver and 9-year-old girl were not hurt in the shooting.

Steele was charged with five counts of attempted murder.
