LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Former Ambassador Pete Hoekstra is the rightful chair of the Michigan Republican Party.

Or, is it Kristina Karamo?

The Republican National Committee Executive Leadership Wednesday voted unanimously to say it was Hoekstra, The Associated Press reports. They also declared Kristina Karamo had been properly removed from the post in a vote earlier this year.

Karamo was voted out by members of the Michigan Republican Party Jan. 6. Karamo refused to acknowledge the move.

She is a supporter of former President Donald Trump and an avid election denier. She ran for Secretary of State two years ago and lost — but has yet to concede.

She took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, using the official Michigan Republican Party account to challenge the decision.

In the video she claims the move to remove her from leadership was a “deeply well-funded effort to sabotage this movement.”

She alleges that outgoing RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told her she remained “legally the state party chair.”

Former President Donald Trump stepped in the controversy earlier, acknowledging Hoekstra as the chair.

For his part, Hoekstra sent out a message to supporters announcing the news.

“Both the RNC and our Party’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump have now come forward and recognized me as the duly elected Chair of the Michigan Republican Party. It is time for the former Chair who was properly removed in accordance with the MIGOP bylaws to end her misinformation campaign. She should join the fight to re-elect Donald Trump rather than dividing this Party. Since I was elected Chairman, we have moved full-steam ahead to develop a plan to elect Republicans across Michigan. We are ready to execute. We must put our nose to the grindstone over the next several months and focus on party unity to secure a red-wave victory in November.”

Email statement from former Ambassador Pete Hoekstra

With the leadership crisis continuing to play out in headlines and behind the scenes leading up to the Republican Presidential Primary vote on February 27, the Democratic National Committee wasted no time in putting out a message slamming the GOP intraparty fight.

Most people wouldn’t want a job that involves taking over an organization on the verge of bankruptcy that has become a national laughingstock for its failed record. But the Michigan GOP is such a disaster that Republicans are currently fighting over which ultra-MAGA extremist gets to chair their dumpster fire of a state party after Donald Trump led them to back to back losses at the ballot box – a trend that doesn’t look like it’s changing anytime soon.
