Roaches on counters. Pink slime. Myrtle Beach area restaurants with the worst inspections
From pink slime in an ice machine to undercooked chicken wings, South Carolina health inspectors found numerous violations in Myrtle Beach-area restaurants this week.
The state releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Horry and Georgetown counties.
Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings this week.
Sushi King Steak and Seafood
Location: 4036 River Oaks Drive #9, Myrtle Beach
Grade: C, 73% for a routine inspection on July 25
In the sushi prep area, an inspector saw flies landing on a cutting board. Employees had stored takeout containers under a leaky ceiling tile and dirty knives on a magnetic strip. Buzz’s Roost
Location: 911 Front St., Georgetown
Grade: B, 78% for a routine inspection on July 26
The inspector found cockroaches on food prep surfaces and around the Georgetown waterfront facility. Chicken wasn’t cooked to the required 165 degrees for hot holding. A followup inspection has not yet been held. Read the full report for Buzz’s Roost.
Borgata of Surfside
Location: 813 Surfside Drive, Surfside Beach
Grade: B, 78% for a routine inspection on July 27
An inspector discovered “pink slime build-up” inside the ice machine. Chicken wings in a cooler were still raw inside, and meat and seafood were held at too high a temperature. A required followup inspection has not yet been held. Read the full report for Borgata of Surfside.
Chicago Pizza
Location: 665 Highway 17 Business, Unit B, Surfside Beach
Grade: B, 80% for a routine inspection on July 25
Neither the walk-in cooler nor another large refrigerator were cold enough, wrote an inspector. Some prepared food did not have the proper date markings. A required followup inspection has not yet been held. Read Chicago Pizza’s full report.
