Roaches crawling on dining tables. Myrtle Beach area restaurants with the worst inspections

From undated sushi fish to daylight shining through cracked walls, South Carolina health inspectors found numerous violations at Myrtle Beach-area restaurants this week.

The state releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Horry and Georgetown counties.

Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings this week.

China Buffet (called Lin’s Garden on Google and Facebook)

  • Location: 1105 Church St., Conway

  • Grade: B, 78% for a routine inspection on Sept. 20



The inspector observed a cockroach crawling on a dining table and dead insects under the buffet. There was a hole in the ceiling above the ice machine. Daylight shone through a crack in an exterior wall. Grease and food debris had built up inside of the rice warmers.

A required follow-up inspection has not yet been held. The Sun News reported that the restaurant received 78% on their August routine inspection. Read the buffet’s full report.

Sushi King Steak and Seafood

  • Location: 4036 River Oaks Drive #9, Myrtle Beach

  • Grade: B, 78% for a routine inspection on Sept. 21

Sushi tuna was defrosting at room temperature, an inspector found. Employees had stored dirty knives on a magnetic strip and boxes of food on the freezer floor. Raw fish for sushi were not marked with dates.

Family Barn

  • Location: 700 Highway 17 N., Surfside Beach

  • Grade: B, 81% for a routine inspection on Sept. 20

An inspector wrote, “No date markings were observed at any location in the facility.” Blue and white substances had built up on the freezer shelves. Even though the slicer had dried food on it, the equipment was stored with clean dishes. The required follow-up inspection has not yet been held. Read Family Barn’s full report.
