Roaches found at 3 school campuses, 1 restaurant in latest Tarrant County inspections

Inspectors in Tarrant County closed down two of the 370 restaurants they visited from Sept. 17 to Sept. 30, including a school’s concession stand, according to data from the county compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The Kennedale High School concession stand and Taqueria San Andres food truck both shut down voluntarily, but had to be visited again by county health inspectors after serious violations could be fixed.

With the high school concession stand, inspectors found cockroaches, dead cockroaches and cockroach feces on the counters, in drawers and on shelves. When inspectors visited the taco truck, they found that the truck’s coolers were not cold enough to safely store food.

Both have been reinspected and reopened with perfect scores by county health inspectors.

Hazel Harvey Peace Elementary School in Fort Worth also had roaches when inspectors visited, as did Castleberry High School’s W.O. Barnes Stadium in River Oaks but with a Fort Worth mailing address.

Inspectors in Kennedale found roaches at Burger Box, as well. Burger Box failed its initial inspection with 41 demerits and passed a follow-up with 23 demerits.

Another restaurant and a catering vehicle failed inspections during that time period. They’ll have to schedule follow-up inspections with the county.

Elotes de la Laguna in Fort Worth failed with violations including using a green garden hose to get water from a portable water tank to the water heater along with poor building maintenance, according to the inspection notes.

The 3F Premier Catering vehicle, based out of Grapevine, failed because of inadequate temperatures in cooling units in the vehicle.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants that Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) inspected for Sept. 17th - Sept. 30th, 2023. TCPH inspects and scores all restaurants in Tarrant County except for those located in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills. Scores are based on a demerit system. When the total exceeds 29, a follow-up inspection is required. To search the restaurant inspections, type in a keyword or restaurant name. You can also sort by score.
