Here are the road closures around the Augusta-area this weekend for Christmas parades
'Tis the season for Christmas parades and with that – road closures. The Grovetown, North Augusta and Columbia County parades will affect traffic patterns this weekend.
Festivities kick off Saturday, Dec. 4, with the Grovetown Christmas parade at 10 a.m. The following portions of roads will close at 9 a.m.:
John Huffman at Augusta Tech to Horizon South Parkway
Horizon South Parkway to Wrightsboro Road
Wrightsboro Road to Robinson Avenue
Harlem-Grovetown Road and Trudeau Trail
On Sunday, Dec. 5, North Augusta Public Safety will begin closing roads at 11 a.m. with the parade beginning at 3 p.m.
E. Martintown Road from Georgia Avenue to Knox Avenue will close at 11 a.m.
Georgia Avenue from E. Martintown Road to Buena Vista Avenue will close at 1 p.m.
During the Columbia County Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 5, the following intersections will be fully or partially closed beginning at 1:30 p.m.:
Industrial Park Drive at North Belair Road – Closed
Ronald Reagan Drive at North Belair Road – Closed
Ronald Reagan Drive at Evans Town Center Boulevard – cannot make a left or right turn, thru traffic only
Main Street at Evans Town Center Lane – Closed
Encore Lane at Evans Town Center Lane – Closed
Williamsburg Way at Allen Drive – Closed
Taxslayer Drive at Allen Drive – Closed
Allen Drive – Closed
North Belair Road at Evans Town Center Boulevard – Closed
Evans Town Center Boulevard, northbound from Washington Road will be closed at Evans to Locks Road
Evans to Locks Road eastbound from Washington Road will be closed at Evans Town Center Boulevard
North Belair Road northbound from Washington Road will be closed to left turn or straight traffic at Evans to Locks Road. Detour right at this intersection only.
Evans to Locks Road westbound will be closed to right and straight traffic at North Belair Road. Detour left at this intersection.
Drivers are recommended to take Furys Ferry Road as an alternate route to avoid road closures.
The parade begins at 3:30 p.m. Pictures with Santa will be available from 2-6 p.m. and the Holiday Market will run from 2-7 p.m. at Evans Towne Center Park. The annual Christmas tree lighting will be held at 6:15 p.m. at the park.
More parades ahead
Augusta will hold it's holiday parade the second weekend of December, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, along Broad Street.
The downtown Aiken Christmas parade begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Barnwell Avenue and Laurens Street NW, then turns down Park Avenue.
