Road closures in Downtown Visalia scheduled for next week

Participants roamed among 20 merchants during the 11th annual Downtown Visalia Wine Walk on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Visalians should prepare for overnight road closures and some lane restrictions in downtown Visalia next week as California Water Service starts the final phase of its Water Main Replacement Project.

Work for the project includes removing temporary asphalt patches along the water main trenches throughout downtown and repaving them with new permanent asphalt, as well as paving around existing water valve covers.

“Traffic delays and parking inconveniences associated with the closures and lane restrictions can be expected and motorists are encouraged to be mindful of potential delays and seek alternate routes,” California Water Service Superintendent Scott McNamara said. “Sidewalk access will be maintained at all times for businesses in the area.”

All work will be completed overnight and into the morning from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. each day, with the exception of work scheduled from 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 1 on Church Street from Acequia Avenue to Main Street.

“Each street will be completed in one work shift,” McNamara said. “From start to finish, the entire job is anticipated to take approximately six days, ground conditions permitting.”

Here is a list of streets that will be closed or restricted on the following days:

  • April 24 – Church Street from Main Street to Center Avenue (Closure)

  • April 25 – Encina Street from Main Street to the intersection with Center Avenue (Closure)

  • April 26 – Main Street from Locust Street to Santa Fe Street (Lane Restriction)

  • April 27 – Floral Street from just south of Main Street to the intersection with Acequia Avenue (Closure)

  • April 28 – Willis Street from Mineral King to Willow Avenue (Closure)

  • May 1 – Church Street from Acequia Avenue to Main Street (Closure)
