Road project closes Broad Ripple Ave to thru traffic for 8 weeks

North side drivers beware: a section Broad Ripple Avenue is closed for eight weeks.

The Department of Public Works has begun the second phase of road reconstruction on the busy thoroughfare, which includes sidewalk widening and underground utility upgrades.

The street is closed to vehicles at the Guilford Avenue intersection for eight weeks but open to pedestrians. Construction crews will lay new stormwater pipes underground to stop flooding in the area and widen the sidewalk on the south side of Broad Ripple to Carrollton Avenue, where parallel parking spots will be eliminated.

After that, the same work will be done west from Carrollton to College Avenue, shutting down that section of road.

The roadwork is an extension of the $6 million Broad Ripple Avenue redesign from the Monon Trail to Guilford last fall that closed the street for about three months. It will include a 12-foot wide multi-use path on the north side of the street from the Monon to Broad Ripple Park at Primrose Avenue.
