Road work season is starting soon in the Fond du Lac area. See if your commute will be affected.

FOND DU LAC – Warm weather ahead in the forecasts also signals "Road Work Ahead" signs on local streets.

Detours this year aren't expected to be as disruptive as last year, during which Johnson Street, Pioneer Road, Military Road and the east side of State 23 all saw major changes to improve safety and efficiency for local drivers. These include dedicated left turn lanes and a new roundabout near some of the city's biggest businesses and more lanes to accommodate commutes.

Friendship, Brandon, Rosendale and Kewaskum set for road construction projects

Kicking off Wisconsin Department of Transportation projects for this year is work on the Townline Road bridge over Interstate 41 in the town of Friendship, for which lane closures on I-41 have started. Crews will replace the bridge deck and improve the road on either side, which is expected to finish in June.

During construction, Townline Road will stay closed at the bridge, and motorists will face some I-41 lane closures, but the highway will remain open with at least one lane of traffic at all times, according to the DOT.

In the town of Brandon, four miles of State 44 — from the west county line to State 49 — will see work in June for pavement upgrades, culvert replacements and extensions and curb ramp improvements to comply with standards laid out in the American with Disabilities Act.

The road will close for the culvert work but will be open with a flagging crew during pavement work. A detour will use County E and County KK.

Two culverts will be replaced on U.S. 45 in the town of Kewaskum, expected to start in late June or July. The road will close between Triple S Road and County B until fall, with detours using County V in Eden and State 67 in Campbellsport.

Starting in August, construction will affect two portions of State 26 near Rosendale, as the vehicle bridge over West Branch of the Fond du Lac River north of State 23 is set to be replaced, as well as a steel pipe culvert just south of the Fond du Lac County FF intersection. Detours will direct motorists to use U.S. 151 to I-41 through October.
