‘The road turned into a lake’: Parts of Aspinwall covered in water from flash flooding

There was plenty of damage in every direction on Freeport Road in Aspinwall after heavy rains swept through the area Friday afternoon.

Several drivers found themselves stranded following flash flooding in the area

“Basically this entire street was covered in water, the road turned into a lake,” said Taylor Brown. “I was on the road for less than a minute. I had just taken a turn to get to the waterworks, and the car in front of me stopped, so I couldn’t go anywhere and my car just turned off.”

Businesses in Aspinwall were also dealing with the aftermath of the storm.

“I got a call from Shami, who owns Spice Affair, saying everything is underwater and I need to get here immediately,” said Nikki Becker, owner of Blinc.Bronze.Beauty.

Becker tells Channel 11 that once a year, heavy rain causes her business to flood.

“I think because our business sits on this main corner here and it sits a bit lower, we always get hit the hardest,” said Becker.

By Friday evening, nearby business owners stopped by the salon to help clean up.

“Everyone just comes and helps us. It’s honestly amazing,” said Becker.
