CITY OF MONROE

East Second Street reconstruction - Washington to Macomb

G.V. Cement Contracting of Brownstown Township is the City’s contractor for roadway concrete paving work for 2022, and they are reconstructing the entire roadway with new curb and gutter, plus most of the adjacent sidewalks and all drives.  During construction, this roadway will be closed entirely to all traffic. The parking lane “bump outs” have been placed on both sides of the roadway, and the north half of the mainline has been placed as well.

For the coming week, the contractor plans to place the remaining new concrete on the south side of the mainline roadway and begin some sidewalk replacement.  Pedestrian access through the work zone is being maintained, particularly to the City / County Law Enforcement Center.

East Lorain Street reconstruction - Hollywood to Arbor

G.V. Cement is reconstructing these two blocks with new 8” concrete, including curbs and driveway approaches. During construction, this roadway may at times be closed entirely to all traffic. All mainline pavement has been completed. For the coming week, the roadway will need to remain closed to traffic while portions of the roadway achieve their required strength, and the contractor may also work on some drive approaches and sidewalk ramps.

West Willow Street reconstruction - Godfroy to Monroe

G.V. Cement is reconstructing this section of roadway with new 8” concrete, including curbs and driveway approaches.  During construction, this roadway may at times be closed entirely to all traffic along with the intersection of Willow and Saint Mary’s, but the intersections at Godfroy, Borgess, and Monroe will remain open at all times.  New concrete has been placed for the north half of the roadway.  For the coming week, the north half will need to remain closed, but later in the week the contractor may begin removals on the south half of the street.

City Hall parking lot reconstruction

G.V. Cement is reconstructing the parking lot south of City Hall, adjacent to Second and Macomb Streets. While the project itself does not require any street closures, during working hours Macomb Street is sometimes being closed at Third Street to minimize entering traffic due to multiple projects in the area.

St. Mary's Avenue reconstruction

G.V. Cement is reconstructing the block between Vine Street and Noble Avenue with new 8” concrete, including curbs and driveway approaches.  During construction, this roadway may at times be closed entirely to all traffic.  For the coming week, the contractor is likely to remove and replace concrete on half of the roadway.
