Roads in Albers, Illinois buckle from subsidence

ALBERS, Ill. – More road problems in Albers, Illinois.

Part of Highway 161 has buckled. Only one lane is open. Thole Road is also buckling. Coal was mined underneath Albers for decades, causing the ground to sink.

Just last month, FOX 2 News reported that a section of railroad tracks also dipped in the area. It’s forcing trains to slow down through town, making wait times at train crossings longer.
