Some roads closed, limited rail service as NY flood recovery continues

Some roads remain closed and there is limited rail service Tuesday as the region continues to recover from storms this past weekend that impacted thousands and killed one person in Orange amid record rainfall in the region.

Service on the Metro-North Hudson line is still partially suspended. Trains are only running between Grand Central Terminal and Peekskill, with at least one train running per hour.

Metro-North is providing limited bus service between the Poughkeepsie and Croton-Harmon stations, with buses stopping at the Croton-Harmon, Beacon and Poughkeepsie stations and providing service on a load-and-go basis.

The Newburgh-Beacon ferry service is still suspended.

The Palisades Interstate Parkway is still closed from the Bear Mountain Bridge south to exit 14.

Also still closed this morning are the Bear Mountain Bridge westbound; Route 9W and the Popolopen Bridge northbound from the Bear Mountain Bridge to the Town of Highlands; Route 218 between Cornwall and West Point; Route 32 both north and south between Cornwall and Trout Brook Road in the town of Woodbury; and Route 6 from the Route 32/Route 17 interchange in Central Valley to the Long Mountain Traffic Circle at the west end of the Bear Mountain Bridge.

Yorktown police say this morning the following roads remain closed: Barger Street between Route 132 and Route 6; Old Crompond Road between Pine Grove Court and Mill Pond Road; Mohegan Avenue between Route 6 and Sagamore Avenue; and Shrub Oak Park.

Meanwhile, Rockland County Executive Ed Day announced the reopening of several roads.

They included Route 210 in Stony Point, and from Cedar Flats Road to Old Route 210; Cedar Flats Road from Route 210 to the Palisades Interstate Parkway entrance; and Bulsontown Road at the Mott Farm Road intersection.

Day said while those roads have reopened, caution might still be required in some areas where repair work is continuing. Drivers should remain vigilant and adhere to any temporary signs or other traffic instructions, he said.

Day praised the cooperative efforts of the county's public works staff, emergency responders and road maintenance teams.

"Their relentless efforts have enabled us to restore normalcy to our community sooner than expected," Day said in a statement.

The locations of power outages have been changing during the day.

The latest location with a high number of power outages is Rockland County, where 241 homes and businesses are without power as of mid-afternoon. Orange and Rockland Utilities does not yet have an estimated restoration time for those outages.

Meanwhile, Central Hudson now has only 17 customers without power in Dutchess County, all of them in the town of Stanford They hope to have those customers restored by 5:30 p.m. That is down from 117 outages at midday, when almost all of them were in the Poughkeepsie area.

They also have 131 customers without power in Ulster County, up from only 19 at midday, but hope to have all those customers' power restored by 5 p.m.

Con Edison says it now has only 20 customers in Westchester County without power, down from 132 at midday, and it hopes to restore those customers by 6 p.m.
