Roads Flood in Abu Dhabi as Cloud Seeding Implemented to Battle High Temperatures
Roads across the United Arab Emirates were swamped with rainwater on July 20 and 21, as the government implemented cloud seeding to battle high temperatures.
This footage was published by the country’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM), who said it showed rainfall in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. The center told the Khaleej Times that during summer, the country experiences monsoon low pressure from India, which typically raises temperatures, especially in the eastern parts of the country, amid growing formation of convective clouds that trigger rainfall. The NCM said the rain-bearing capacity of convective clouds in the east was also enhanced by cloud seeding.
The center carried out 126 cloud seeding flights in 2021, including 14 from July 13 to 20, Gulf Today reported. Temperatures in the country reached 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) on July 13. Credit: National Center of Meteorology via Storyful
